To those who are worried about the threat of hoaxes and false information on the Net, I offer this. (A good source of September 11-related rumour-debunking can be found at snopes.com.)
J.D. Lasica tackled the issue of ethical reporting of news in the online medium a few weeks ago, and many of the points can be used for both news consumers and producers to understand the quality of what they read online.
