Reuters layoffs, Shift folds, Salon sinks, but the BBC redesigns
Reuters cuts 3,000 jobs. Damn.
Shift ceases publication, once again, officially due to a lack of ads from the technology sector. The last issue was also noticeably short of advertising. Unlike the last time, resurrection seems unlikely. Damn.
David Akin takes an in-depth look at Salon's downward spiral and, in the process, chims the bell for online journalism (with help from Antonia Zerbisias). Double damn.
Financial news, technology, and online journalism — glad my career hasn’t focussed on those!
Oh. Right…
On a more lighter note, BBC News redesigns, and like the Globe, has moved to an 800-pixel width uses pixels as the font-sizing unit. The result, stories are easier to read, and the design has more breathing room. Subtle, but welcome changes.
