Welcome to the beta of the new saila.com. Send in your bugs.
Mozilla news; AdsML; Usability 101
This post was delayed due to the Blogger upgrades that have now prevented me from even using this service. As a result, this has been posted manually and future posts may be sporadic until the problem is fixed. (Note to self: must hurry development on new site.)
All of this is somewhat appropriate as it was three years ago today that saila.com completed its own big “upgrade” by broadening its focus on Web standards and online journalism, almost starting this blog, and using its first three-column, CSS-based layout. Now to back to the regular scheduled postings…
Mozilla news:
- the third release candidate for Mozilla 1.4 is out;
- the first release candidate for NewsMonster 1.0, the Mozilla-based RSS-aggregator, is out (it’s a great program I’ve installed in various Mozilla versions — although it can slow the browser down due to NewsMonster’s reliance on Java). This version includes a reputation manager;
- most interestingly, Composer++’s support for absolute positioning and z-index has been folded into the latest nightly version of the Mozilla Suite.
The Literary Moose has built a very clever CSS Slideshow that ably showcases tricks Internet Explorer users will miss.
That was fast. The commercial Wi-Fi hotspot bubble has been popped.
The trend to du jour seems to be blog-based series. The latest is Tristan Louis’ “Usability 101.” Though focused on open source projects, it does have some Web connotations — there’s also a related Yahoo Group.
Finally: Monday marked my first live Segway (an e Series) sighting just outside the Black Bull. I was hoping for to be offered a test drive, but the guy looked too comfortable on it.
